Around the world…
I have always been curious about what exists beyond what I know.
There is an entire world out there made of different cultures, languages, landscapes, climates, cities and ways of living. Sometimes they feel surprisingly similar to our own reality; other times, completely different.
And I think that is precisely what I love about travelling.
It changes your references.
Since I was very young, I have been fascinated by the idea that somewhere else, everything I consider normal could simply be done differently. Every trip has reminded me that what we see is never just what it is. There is always a story, a context and another layer to notice.
For me, taking a photograph is a way of remembering what caught my attention.
Sometimes it is a building. Sometimes a street, a landscape, a colour, a person, a meal, or simply something I cannot quite explain but want to remember.
Because a photograph doesn’t only capture a place.
It captures the moment around the place — the story, the anecdote, what I wanted at that time, where I was going, and sometimes even who I was becoming.
Every trip adds something.
A reference.
A memory.
A different way of seeing.
Maybe another page in the book — or the beginning of a completely new chapter.
I was fourteen when I first stepped onto a plane and travelled beyond my little piece of the Caribbean.
The destination was New York City.
And after all these years, it is still one of my favourite places.
Not only because of Manhattan or the places we all recognise. What fascinates me most about New York is everything happening at the same time: different neighbourhoods, histories, languages, cultures and ways of living somehow sharing the same city.
It has that je ne sais quoi that I still can’t completely explain.
I just know I always want to go back.
I would love to say that by thirty I had travelled the entire world.
I hadn’t.
And that’s okay — because there is still so much left to see.
This book is simply a collection of photographs taken along the way between 2014 and 2020.
Places I visited.
Things that made me stop.
Details I wanted to remember.
And moments that, for one reason or another, became part of my story.
Looking at them now, I realise these photographs are not only a record of where I have been.
They are a record of how I learned to notice.
And there is still a lot of world left to notice.
