How does BIM move beyond digital modelling and become part of the delivery of a real architectural project?
In 2020, Sarah Tió presented Villa LULU, a project developed at DL+A Arquitectos, as a case study exploring the practical implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the documentation, coordination and execution of a turnkey architectural project.
As Architecture Studio Manager at DL+A Arquitectos, Sarah shared how the methodology was integrated into the studio’s workflow, allowing project information to be developed within a coordinated digital environment and supporting collaboration between the team throughout different stages of the project.
Using Villa LULU as a real-world example, the presentation explored the relationship between design development, architectural documentation, team coordination and project execution — demonstrating how BIM can connect information that would traditionally be developed through separate processes.
The case study also addressed one of BIM’s most significant advantages: its potential to create continuity between design intent and project delivery.
Rather than treating drawings, models and project information as isolated outputs, BIM establishes a shared information structure that can evolve alongside the project.
For a turnkey project, where coordination between design and execution becomes particularly important, this integrated approach can help teams identify conflicts earlier, maintain consistency across documentation and make more informed decisions as the project progresses.
The webinar was organised by ProBIM Dominicana as part of its educational programme promoting knowledge and professional discussion around BIM methodology within the Dominican architecture and construction industry.
