Architecture student Lorena Odette García Martínez was selected for the Best Presented and Documented Projectdeveloped during the Representation & Communication II course at the School of Architecture & Design of PUCMM.
The recognition was awarded with the support of CATBIM, representatives of Graphisoft and Twinmotion in the Dominican Republic, and included a renewable Twinmotion licence in recognition of the quality of her architectural documentation and presentation.
Representation & Communication II was structured around a fundamental idea:
Architecture needs to be designed, but it also needs to be communicated.
The course introduced students to digital architectural workflows, with a particular focus on Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a tool for developing and documenting architecture in both two and three dimensions.
Using Archicad, students developed their architectural projects through a coordinated BIM model from which plans, sections, elevations and other technical information could be produced.
The objective, however, extended beyond learning software.
Students were encouraged to understand architectural representation as a professional language — one capable of communicating spatial, technical and conceptual information clearly.
Throughout the course, students developed a complete communication workflow.
They learned to:
Understand graphic representation as a language for architects.
Develop coordinated architectural drawing sets using appropriate graphic conventions.
Construct three-dimensional BIM models as the foundation for project documentation.
Produce architectural visualisations using Twinmotion.
Design project portfolios.
Develop explanatory presentation boards.
Present their architectural ideas verbally using their graphic material as support.
The same project was therefore explored through multiple forms of communication — from technical drawings to visualisation and presentation.
In addition to Archicad and Twinmotion, the course introduced students to a broader range of digital tools used throughout contemporary architectural practice.
These included Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, alongside presentation tools such as Keynote, PowerPoint and Canva.
Each programme served a different purpose within the workflow.
BIM organised information.
Visualisation communicated atmosphere and spatial experience.
Graphic design established hierarchy and narrative.
Presentation techniques allowed students to explain and defend their architectural decisions.
Together, these tools helped transform architectural information into a coherent visual story.
Lorena’s project was selected for its quality of presentation and architectural documentation, reflecting the broader objectives of the course.
The recognition also highlighted the value of collaboration between architectural education and industry, with CATBIM supporting the course and providing the Twinmotion licence awarded to the selected student.
More than recognising proficiency with digital tools, the award celebrated the ability to bring together architecture, information and communication.
Because ultimately, architectural representation is not about producing beautiful drawings.
It is about making an architectural idea understandable.
