Design Thinking Workshop | UNPHU Santo Domingo 2022
What does an architect have to do with an entrepreneurship bootcamp? More than you might think.
In 2022, Sarah Tió was invited as a workshop facilitator for the Entrepreneur Bootcamp held at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña — UNPHU in Santo Domingo.
Organised by MiPymes UNPHU, the programme brought together entrepreneurs, experts and mentors through a series of practical workshops designed to support the development of new business ideas and entrepreneurial projects.
As the opening facilitator, Sarah led a Design Thinking workshop for a limited group of 15 participants, introducing creative thinking as a practical methodology for entrepreneurship and problem-solving.
What does Design Thinking have to do with startups?
Quite a lot.
Design Thinking extends beyond architecture and the traditional design disciplines. It provides a way to understand problems from the perspective of the people experiencing them — questioning assumptions, identifying needs, generating ideas and testing possible solutions.
During the workshop, these principles were applied to entrepreneurship, encouraging participants to approach their business ideas through empathy, observation, experimentation and creative problem-solving.
Because whether the challenge is a building, a service or a startup, the process begins in much the same way:
understand the problem before designing the solution.
